DOOM ETERNAL -CODEX

Doom Eternal - A Great Buy Or a Money Pit?

When it comes to a top notch PC game, few can match the fact that the original DOOM is in the mix. This timeless franchise of video games has seen many additions to the series over the years, yet none are as equally as fun as the original DOOM. It is a shame then that the latest installment in the franchise, Doom Eternal, is not only less fun, but also does not live up to the high standard of the original, by a wide margin.
The obvious problem with Doom Eternal is that it is an upgraded version of the original game. This means that it takes place in a very similar environment. While the game play is very similar, the graphics and animations are so much better. There are no blurry images or poorly animated characters like there were with the original, making the game feel more polished.
The graphics of the game are far superior to the original and the environmental effects are far more realistic than they were in the original. While the original never quite grasped the beauty of Hell, the game does capture the atmosphere and feel of the place well enough. Unfortunately, the graphics don't hold up to the standards set by the original, making this one of the worst games of the year.
In addition to the lack of graphics, the game is also lacking in several areas of gameplay. For one thing, the enemies and weapons have been given a makeover, but have not aged that well at all. Some weapons look very dated and other weapons lack the functionality they had in the original.
Also missing from the game is any sort of multiplayer. In the original, the game provided a great deal of single-player content and multiplayer was simply a side note. For years, the game featured support for many online modes of play, which included many of the same options. However, there was no way to play this game online at all, which is a shame, since the game would have provided a great deal of fun for gamers everywhere.
It's also unfortunate that the game doesn't offer nearly as much variety as the original. If there is one good thing to be said about the game, it is that there are now a wide array of weapons, different types of enemies, and a wide range of environment and gameplay settings. However, the lack of variety will do nothing to improve the game in any way and makes it difficult to determine what the original offered in the first place.
So, in the end, while it might not be the greatest game ever released, it is certainly the best selling game of all time. While I enjoyed the game, I don't think that it is nearly as fun as the original. Despite the flaws of the game, it is still the best of the franchise and is the definitive DOOM game.
So, while the game might not be as deep and interesting as the original, it is still an incredible experience. With the new features, it does provide a fun alternative to the original, without being as enjoyable. The game is still worth playing, even if you do not consider yourself a hardcore gamer.
